The IIC offers a variety of membership types to fit your present circumstances and your professional growth. Joining the IIC is the best way for Internal Controls professionals to stay abreast of developments in the field, obtain and maintain vital certifications and grow professionally. 

We offer:

Membership and Certification based on: 

  • prior education and experience (Grandfathering Provision),
  • via passing of the certification examination, or
  • completion of the certification via curriculum program.

Full Membership and Certification via Grandfathering Provision for Experienced Internal Controls Professionals based on prior education and experience.

Educator Membership and Certification via Grandfathering Provision for educators who are full-time faculty teaching courses related to internal controls, including auditing, AIS, ethics, governance, security, etc. or have published or presented articles in the areas related to Internal Controls as noted above.

Associate Membership for those who are in the process of obtaining certification via the examination or curriculum program. Note: This is required for all members planning to take the exam or complete the curriculum program for certification.

Student Membership for students who are studying for a career in Internal Controls.

Retired Membership for former members no longer working in any capacity as an IC professional.

For consideration in completion of the application we have compiled a list of the typical certifications we accept under the Grandfathering Provision. Note that certifications MUST be specific to internal controls. If your certification is not listed please email the Office of the Chairman at chairman@theiic.org for determination of acceptance. DO NOT claim non listed certifications without prior approval.

Nominations Committee Meetings/Application Process

The Nominations Committee meets twice a month, with the mid-month meeting held on the 15th of each month and the end-of-month meeting held on the last business day of each month. Applicants approved are emailed the results within 30 days of the meeting.

Certificates and membership cards are mailed out within 60 days of the meeting. For U.S. applicants, mailing is via U.S. Postal Service Priority Mail with 2-3 days service. For international applicants mailing is via First Class Mail with 30 TO 60 days delivery time dependent on mail service outside of the U.S. Note that due to mail service outside of the U.S., delivery is sometimes delayed more than 60 days. For faster delivery, as well as tracking with guaranteed delivery, COURIER SERVICE is available at an additional cost.

Applicants not approved will be emailed by the Chairman within 15 days after the meeting, noting the reasons for denial or request for more information.
